Philadelphia was the night’s big winner at the Philadelphia Urban Film Awards. We’ve been having a rough two years. PUFA eliminated all negativity and welcomed all positive vibes at the 2022 Philadelphia Urban Film Awards brought to you by Jimmy DaSaint, Uptown Standard, and Monster House. Hosted by Plex and Roc Star P and holding it down with all the coordination was the amazing Latrice, aka Around the Way Girl.

It was a full house; people peacefully waited in lines and walked the red carpet as Celebrities in the Basement’s Karen Waller Martin, and Chubby Chaser’s RedSnaperrr and Son of the 215 interviewed the nominees and celebrities. Fox 29 Philly’s own Sergio Cruel had a line of influential nominees, like Asia Sparks, Rob Schwartz, Black Deniro, and guests waiting for an interview with Sergio for Fox. Sajda Purple Blackwell, running to represent the 10th District, addressed the crowd as she stands for change in West Philly. Jimmy DaSaint clearly brought Hollywood to Philly!

Winners who made history included Tiona Brown, who swept the awards with two wins Best Stage Play “Ain’t No Sunshine” and Best Book Author. Councilman David Oh presented the Man of the Year to Nakia Dillard and Female of the Year to Diane Heery. A special Lifetime Achievement Award went to Shelly Shell Williams.

Thank you again! I truly appreciate the recognition! Ain’t No Sunshine/Please Don’t Touch Me There/ Best Supporting Actor Bobby Rand -When the family wins-We Win!!! Love the cast, crew, my support team, and those who want my light to shine! Tiona Brown said.

One of the most exhilarating feelings is to see our city come together and celebrate each other. The crowd cheered for each nominee, celebrated the winners, and appreciated the love of industry peers. I loved how RA Certified jumped up excitedly when he and partner Kareen Shaw won the best short film award for “The Color of Freedom.” I used to wanna just rap; thank you, Philly Urban Film Awards, for our first movie award said RA Certified.

The award for traveling the furthest goes to the color-coordinated, lavishly dressed Mykal Coles and wives Jasmine and Alicia. They traveled from Virginia to celebrate Philly Creatives and to surprise me. Another surprise was Young Steff, featured in Kanye West’s documentary.  I must thank Roxi Fab for being my Makeup artist for the evening. Roxi Fab received the Female Hustler of the year nomination.

Over 50 people received nominations, and as Plex said, everyone is a winner! Showing up to do what you love, never giving up, and being recognized in your city. I screamed for everyone.
